Space and Materiality

In this project, I learned how to twist the wires to create a sturdy shape for the neck and conquer my fear of using the woodshop. Though securing the two ends together was challenging, I used a small clasp and secured it so they had a finished look. I was inspired by Kaye, a nurse who worked at the infirmary from my school in Canada. She was a very caring and close friend to me, and she loved making colourful jewelry and quilts. This assignment reminded me of her. Initially, I was clueless because I had trouble understanding the concept. I started taking small wood scraps and cutting them into geometric shapes. Then, I put them together and played around with the different patterns. After placing wood pieces together, I painted some pieces to make this entity look more like a wearable jewelry piece. The more I looked at it, the more I saw the shape of an elephant’s head.
